Jen Rhine, Children's Ministry
Jen Rhine became the director of children’s ministry at Crossings Community Church in the late summer of 2010.
Jen has spent a lot of time working with children in various ages and places in Lancaster County and feels that God has used many of those random opportunities to give her the life education she needs to lead the ministry called Crossings Kids.
After graduating from Millersville University in 1995 she began her career as a 2nd grade teacher in the Lancaster School District for two years as a long term substitute. She became an aide for IU13 the next year while she was pregnant with her daughter and absolutely loved the position, despite having no prior experience or desire to work with special needs children. Jen helped to develop a toddler gym program with a friend at Grace UMC in Millersville and was offered a position as a preschool teacher. She taught 4 year old preschool children while her daughter was a student in the school. At the time, she was also beginning a children’s ministry program for a small church plant.
As her daughter began kindergarten, Jen and her family began a new journey in life: they became foster parents. In a short amount of time, five children came and left their home, and they decided that they really didn’t want to say goodbye to any more children so they chose to work with an adoption agency.
In the winter of 2007, they were chosen to adopt a four year old boy from a neighboring county. Completely unprepared for what lay ahead, they excitedly moved forward with the adoption and brought their son into their home unaware of the many special needs that he possessed. Jen and her husband have been working for the last four years to help their son heal. God has blessed the family with a very supportive elementary school and professionals who help them manage their son’s learning and emotional care. This experience has given Jen a heart for children who have trauma in their pasts and for parents that have adopted broken children into their homes.
Jen began working at St. Paul’s Christian Preschool in 2005 in Mountville where she is currently employed as a co-director and three year old teacher and she loves her job there! Not only does she enjoy enjoy the children and their families, but she loves the staff as well.
Jen and her family have been members of Crossings Community Church since it was a new church plant meeting in Mountville. She spent many years supporting her husband as the worship leader and backing him on the bass guitar. She continues to play music with her husband in a local band.
God calls his servants into many areas of ministry and Jen knows that she is where God wants her to serve.
Jen also has a Children’s Ministry Blog.
